IBCA Attends NCBA Spring Legislative Conference

The Indiana Beef Cattle Association (IBCA) traveled to Washington DC, April 1-3, to attend the National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) Legislative Conference. Indiana's beef industry was represented by 8 producers on the trip. They included: IBCA President Todd McGraw, IBCA Vice President Jason Tower, IBCA Membership Chairman Clark Sennett, and IBCA Executive Vice President Julia A. Wickard.

Also attending were Indiana beef producers: Jim Culp, Virginia Davis, Virginia Pollert and Joe Doub.

The producers visited all 11 Congressional offices and visited personally with eight Members of Congress. The group talked about several issues including finalizing and voting on a Farm Bill, making certain the Clean Water Act does not prevent agriculture from operating and opening and maintaining export markets for the beef industry.

The Indiana delegation joined over 250 producers from across the nation at this annual legislative event in our nation's capital.

S. Korea Opens Back Up to US Beef

South Korea says it has agreed to resume US beef imports that had been halted over concerns about mad cow disease.

The South Korean Agriculture Ministry said that Seoul would allow American beef imports from cattle younger than 30 months, including cuts with bones. Younger cows are believed to be less at risk for mad cow disease.

South Korea will allow beef from older cattle after the US strengthens controls on feed to reduce the chance of infection.
