Call Out to Local Affiliates
The grassroots of the IBCA is made up of county organizations. There are many active county and area organizations involved in a wide variety of activities throughout the year, including grilling beef products at local events, holding field days, sponsoring scholarships or working at the county fair. We are interested in hearing about your organization's future or past events.

Remember, if you send a summary of your county activities, it will be highlighted in this weekly newsletter and or published in the Indiana Beef magazine. You can send county event forms by mail to Jennifer Biesecker, Indiana Beef Cattle Association, 5738 W 74th St. Indianapolis, IN 46278 or by email.

If you would like more information about becoming involved in your county's activities, please call the IBCA office, 317.293.2333, and we'd be happy to send you to the right person.

Animal Traceability Rules Take Effect January 1
Hoosier livestock producers still have time to be ready for new animal identification and recordkeeping requirements that begin on January 1, 2015. The changes, adopted by the members of the Indiana State Board of Animal Health (BOAH) this summer, will bring Indiana into alignment with federal laws.

Expansion of Federal Authority Over Waters
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) recently proposed an expansion of their federal authority over "Waters of the U.S." The agencies have proposed to redefine the definition of "Waters of the United States," and that new definition would require cattle ranchers to get the permission of the federal government any time they needed to expand, do maintenance or perform routine activities like driving a tractor through a pasture. Almost all activities on our open land will now touch a "Water of the United States" under the expanded definition. The expansion flies in the face of the U.S. Constitution, the plain language of the Clean Water Act and Congressional intent and is therefore illegal. Tell the agency that the agencies have stepped over the line and the proposed rule should NOT be finalized.
